Who built Mysore Palace, Karnataka?


Mysore palace was once destroyed in a fire in the year 1897 during a wedding ceremony.Later the Maharaja Krishnaraj Wodeyar IV and his mother Kempananjammanni Devi helped in commissioning Henry Irwin, a British architect to design a new palace.

Henry Irwin is known as the "builder of Mysore Palace". He designed the Indo-Saracenic style palace, which was completed in 1912.


The Mysore Palace construction was also overseen by B.P. Raghavulu Naidu who was an executive engineer in Mysore Palace.

The Mysore Palace is the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty, the former royal family of Mysore.


In 2013, Srikantadatta Wadiyar, the last Maharaja of Mysore, died without a child.


After his death, Rajmata (Queen Mother) Pramoda Devi Wadiyar adopted Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar as her son and made him the new titular Maharaja of Mysore.


Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who is now 27 years old, is the current head of the Wadiyar family and the owner of the Mysore Palace.


He was crowned as the 27th King of the Wadiyar dynasty in 2015, continuing the royal lineage that has ruled Mysore for over 500 years.

Who owns Mysore Palace?


In 1998, the Government of Karnataka enacted the "Mysore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act" to acquire the palace and its surrounding lands, including the royal treasures, paintings, and other artifacts.
